Seatang

Built in 1955 for Dr D. Porter, home port registered as Belfast. The boat was then sold to G. Alastair Peat in 1960. By 1975, the boat had changed hands to J. Brown of Rhu. This is where the official record ends.

She was listed for sale at Carrickfergus Marina in County Antrim in 2009, and according to the sale particulars seemed to be in good order. The boat had an extensive refit in 2001, and regular work up to the middle of the decade. Seatang had an 11.5 hp Vetus diesel on board, the boat still had the original wooden mast, and a fair inventory of tan sails and equipment - including a very useful cabin heater (most boats don’t have a heater, although Salna has one, as does Saunterer). The boat was then bought by Benjamin Gobin of Belgium, seen here in 2011 being launched in Portaferry and subsequently abandoned in Whiterock boatyard. Photos below taken by Martin Pearsons.
