shapeimage_2-filtered.jpg

Saunterer was built for Joe & Victor Fusco in 1947. The boat came with a 4Cy 14BHP Morris engine and a sail wardrobe made Greenock Sail Co. They would go on to own the boat for the next nine years...

J Faulkner Irving: 1956-1962

J Irving kept Saunterer in Dun Laoghaire at this time and the boat had its original engine and sails.

Dr Hunter Gillies: 1962-1964

Saunterer was brought to Tighnabruaich by Dr Gillies with a new set of sails made by Cranfield in 1960.

D.M Lindsay: 1965-1967

Saunterer stays in Tighnabruaich during these years with a new sail wardrobe made by Leitch in 1962. After 1967 there is no available records on Saunterer.

The Mystery Years: 1967-Circa 2000

Very little is known about Saunterer's ownership in the years between 1967 and 2000. However, we know that by 2002, the boat was owned by Steve Hampson of Dartmouth and was kept there until 2010.

Nick & Sophie Bubb: 2010 - 2014

Restoration

Nick writes:

‘The hull is sound with no significant problems and she is incredibly strongly built, but a few ribs could do with replacing although not essential. We have rebuilt the coachroof (frames and planking) which has now been glassed with epoxy. We are in the middle of rebuilding the foredeck and replacing a few beams. The rest of the deck is sound.

‘The mast is a beautiful wooden spar which we have stripped and checked over, and repaired a few small cracks along the grain and then begun varnishing. She needs putting back together but we have all the parts.’

Tom Keaney & Geraldine Slavin: 2014-Present

Purchased from Nick & Sophie Bubb, Saunterer is now kept at Tranmere Sailing Club, Rock Ferry on the River Mersey in the Wirral. News and restoration photos will hopefully be provided shortly.
