Built for F.C Hopkirk of Belfast, brother of rally driver Paddy, of Monte Carlo Rally fame. Sandera came with a 2Cy Stuart Turner and sails made by Gowen of West Mersea, Essex.
In 1951, Martin Imrie was asked by Robert Slater, the designer and builder of the S-Class boats, to deliver Sandera to Southampton, ready for her new owner P. H. Garrett. One of the crew was the skipper’s four-year-old son Martyn, who has now supplied the log of their passage. The boat was subsequently kept on the river Beaulieu until the early 1970s. Click below for a view of the delivery log in 1951.
Sandera's life from the 1970s until the 2010s is unknown but we do know the boat remained on the south coast ending up in the ownership of Ray Taylor who kept the boat on a mooring in Gillingham on the Medway. The Taylor family were members of the Medway Cruising Club and upon his passing in 2023, left the boat to the club. The club deemed the boat to be beyond economic repair and had it broken up.
